Dr. De Mory grew up in Chicago. He has one sibling, a younger brother, who was sick with hydrocephalus from the time he was born. Thus, at an early age, Dr. De Mory had repeated exposure to doctors and the health system as he went with his brother to his medical visits. The lasting impression those visits had on him was that although the physicians were brilliant, they were not so great at explaining his brother’s disease to the family. As a physician, that experience has impacted how he practices. He strives to take care of the patient as a whole person who needs both treatment and information to understand their disease.

Dr. De Mory attended medical school and did his residency at the University of Chicago. During medical school, he was influenced by a nephrologist who took the time to care for the whole person, patiently educating them about their condition. This physician served as a role model for Dr. De Mory and was the influence on his chosen specialty. Today, Dr. De Mory takes pride in being both a clinician and an educator when it comes to his patients.

Years later, Dr. De Mory’s approach to patient care was once again shaped by one of his loved ones. This time it was his wife. Shortly after they were married, she came down with a kidney disease, was moved onto dialysis, and put on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. Over the years she has had two kidney transplants and he has seen daily, and experienced intimately, the challenges patients face with the disease.

Dr. De Mory has a large family consisting of his wife, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 21 dogs. Yes, 21 dogs, most of which are rescue dogs. They live on a 50-acre farm in the country.
